Today was just one of those days for my four year old. Noah had no nap yesterday, went to bed late, and awoke early this morning. Although he tried to play and I tried to entertain him, he was just crabby and nothing could appease him. Yes, the grumpy bug had definitely bit him today!
So,the three boys and I headed to the library, as Thursday is "Library Day". That seemed to help a little, as Noah and the other two boys love to play with the toys, select books and movies, and pick up their weekly prize for the summer reading program.
My nephew and I went straight to the Eric Carle books, his favorite author! Lo and behold, we stumble across Carle's THE GROUCHY LADYBUG! What a perfect book for Noah today!
After lunch, the grouchies were getting worse and worse. So, I gathered the boys together in the playroom and we read THE GROUCHY LADYBUG! A classic, this entertaining story showcases Carle's distinct illustrations and weaves a tale of a ladybug who- you guessed it- is grouchy! The story features flip pages just like in THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR, and is great for introducing young children to the concept of telling time.
By the end of the story, Noah was giggling, asking me what aphids are, and telling me that the ladybug learned a lesson about not being rude and grouchy. Hopefully, Noah did as well!
Loved by children, parents, and teachers, this picture book features a "circle story" technique (story begins and ends the same way), fosters a discussion on polite behavior and how we treat others, includes a variety of animals, reinforces the concept of smaller and larger, introduces and reinforces telling time, and uses some predictable text for shared reading.
Have you been bitten by the grouchy bug today? No matter what your mood, this timeless story will delight the young and old!
Enjoy!
I love your post! You're a great mommy! Your post came into my email because I have the word "grouchies" listed as a google alert.
ReplyDeleteI am a Youth Services Librarian in Burlington, Iowa and last October I had my first children's book published. It's called "The Grouchies." It is published by Magination Press in Washington DC and is about a little boy who gets up on the wrong side of the bed and has a very grouchy day. There is an extensive note to parents at the end of the story. The book has sold very well and is now in a 2nd printing. Just wanted to share so you could check it out at your library (hopefully they have it in their collection).
My personal website is www.grouchies.com. You can read my story, look at pictures, and find more information there.
All the best,
Debbie Wagenbach
Thank you, Debbie, and congratulations on the 2nd printing of your book! I checked out your website and a synopsis of the book; it looks adorable! I definitely will be looking for it at the library next week! Thank you so much for sharing!
